Block Salt
Block salt was invented by Harvey Bowden of Kinetico Ltd in the middle 1980’s and the Kinetico Block Salt Softener was brought to market in 1995 and revolutionised the industry.
Up until that time there was only granular or tablet salt available for domestic water softeners and the introduction of Block Salt had a number of unique advantages. Block Salt takes up 50% less volume than tablet salt so that the Kinetico Block Salt Softener and subsequently Harvey’s Block Salt Softener could be manufactured in a smaller size.
Block Salt also made it much easier for customers to carry the 8kg Block Salt pack rather than the 25 kg tablet salt pack.
So Harvey’s Block Salt took over the market and created a whole new industry. Since then Kinetico Ltd changed its name to Harvey Softeners Limited on the introduction of Harvey’s Block Salt Softener and Kinetico Inc. now manufacture the Kinetico Block Salt Softener under the 20/20 C brand name and also have manufactured for them Block Salt under the Kinetico Block Salt brand name.
The Block Salt Company Ltd was formed as a partnership between Harvey Softeners Ltd and New Cheshire Salt Works Ltd. who subsequently were bought out by British Salt Ltd. So the current Block Salt Company is now a partnership between Harvey Water Softeners and British Salt. All British and manufactured in Cheshire.
