Water Softener Prices and Cost

Water Softener Prices

The first question people often ask us is how much does it cost? The short answer is that a water softener should pay for itself within a few years, so the cost to you as a homeowner is a negative. In other words, you should save money.

Our water softeners range in cost from approximately £500 for a single cylinder electrically operated machine to around £1800 for an ‘all singing, all dancing’ twin cylinder non electric machine for a huge household with multiple power showers. Every home needs something different.

What we offer is a complete in-home demonstration service whereby our fully trained demonstrators will show you the benefits of softened water via our portable water softener, explain all the different types of softener available and make a recommendation as to the one that suits you the most. We will also work out the type of plumbing system you have and the best way of installing it so that you get the perfect job.

We as a company are members of the Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering and all our plumbers are qualified so you get the top-level service from the top-level company.

So, the next question you should be asking yourself is how much money you are going to save rather than how much will the water softener cost!

Here is an indicator of how much money softened water will save you in your home with an average family of four (if there is such thing!). Fuel Savings

Recent research carried out by Advantica demonstrated a minimum 6% efficiency saving with a very modestly scaled cylinder. The government building regulations now require the fitment of a device to reduce the amount of scaling to save energy. For more information see our Softened Water Energy Saving Benefits page.

Capital Depreciation

People replace their plumbing because it wears out and gets grotty. Plumbing wears out and gets grotty because of hard water. Softened water plumbing will go on almost indefinitely, and the soft vs. hard water capital depreciation calculator here shows the extended life expectancy when using softened water, and the associated monthly savings.

Cost of Running a Water Softener

Once you have a water softener installed your first cost is for electricity if you have any electrically operated softener, and the only other costs are salt and maintenance. Electricity is not a consideration with a non-electric water softener, and these units generally require little or no ongoing maintenance. Typically the salt will cost less than 50p per person per week in a hard water area and even less in a moderately hard water area.
